Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging
Launches "Image Gentlysm"
|

|
Children are more sensitive to radiation received from imaging scans than adults, and cumulative radiation exposure to their smaller, developing bodies could, over time, have adverse effects. To help ensure that imaging providers account for these factors, the ACR has joined the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging in launching the “Image Gently” campaign.
The College has also created this pediatric imaging page to help providers sharpen their skills in pediatric imaging and learn more about the special challenges that the imaging of children can present. The ACR feels that these products will be of assistance to members concerned with the safe and effective imaging of pediatric patients.
The Image Gently Web site (www.imagegently.org/) contains the latest information and protocol guidance to help imaging providers determine and develop the appropriate radiation techniques to use in the imaging of children. |

ACR Appropriateness Criteria ® Relative Radiation Level Information Many of the imaging examinations described in the ACR Appropriateness Criteria ® (AC) guidelines involve exposure of patients to ionizing radiation from radioactive materials or x-rays. In order to help assess this risk, a relative radiation level (RRL) indication has been included for each imaging examination. To access this Free document, click here.
